Getting started

What is Tally?

Tally is a trading journal built for prop-firm traders. You log the trades you've already taken — instrument, entry, exit, size, and your reasoning — and Tally turns that record into patterns you can act on: which setups actually pay you, which sessions leak money, and where your discipline slips.

It's a record-keeping and reflection tool. It doesn't tell you what to trade.

Is Tally free right now?

Yes. Tally is in an open beta until 19 October 2026. During the beta, journaling is unlimited and free — unlimited trades, screenshots, tags and reflections.

Two things are metered even during the beta, because they cost real money to run: AI Reads (2 for a free account) and formatted exports (one PDF and one Excel). Your raw JSON export is always free and unlimited.

Do I need a broker connection to use it?

No. You can enter trades manually, or import a CSV export from your platform and let Tally fill in the numbers. Direct broker sync is in development — you can tell us which platform you trade on from inside the app, and the most requested ones ship first.

Can I import my trades from a CSV?

Yes. Export a CSV from your platform or prop firm dashboard and Tally reads it — it recognises the common formats from MT4, MT5, cTrader, Tradovate, Topstep, FTMO and most others, and works out dates, prices, size and P&L for you.

Nothing is added until you review it: you see every row Tally found, anything already in your journal is flagged as a duplicate, and you can uncheck whatever you don't want. Your reflections are never touched by an import — only the numbers are filled in, so you can spend your time on the part that matters.

Free accounts get 2 imports. Pro and Mentor accounts, and anyone linked to a mentor, have unlimited imports. Manual entry is always free and unlimited.

Logging trades

Does Tally calculate my P&L for me?

Yes, when you give it enough to work with. Enter your instrument, entry price, exit price and position size, and Tally calculates the P&L using real contract maths — handling forex, metals, futures, index CFDs, crypto and stocks each on their own terms. Position size is entered in broker-style lots, the same way you'd enter it in MT4, MT5 or cTrader.

When P&L is calculated automatically, the outcome buttons lock to match, so your journal can't disagree with itself.

How is risk:reward worked out?

Add a stop loss price and Tally calculates it for you: risk is the distance from entry to stop, reward is the distance from entry to exit. The R:R field then locks and shows that it's automatic.

Leave the stop empty and you can type R:R in by hand, exactly as before.

How does trade duration work?

Enter your entry time and exit time and Tally works out the duration itself, including trades held overnight past midnight. There's no duration field to fill in.

Can I attach charts to a trade?

Yes — one screenshot per timeframe, labelled by timeframe, so a wall of charts stays readable. Click any thumbnail to zoom exactly where your cursor points, then move to pan and scroll to adjust.

The timeframe chips are yours to shape: hover one you don't use to remove it, and type any timeframe you do use into the + TF box. Tally standardises what you type, so "30min", "m30" and "30" all become M30.

Can I edit or delete a trade after logging it?

You can edit a trade for 24 hours after logging it, and delete it at any time. The edit window exists so your journal stays an honest record rather than something rewritten after the fact — the point of a journal is what you actually thought at the time.

AI Reads

What is an AI Read?

At the end of a week or month, Tally reads every trade and reflection in that period and hands back four things: whether your reflection language matches your outcomes, one behaviour to repeat that your winners share, one behaviour to watch that your losers share, and a note on discipline — frequency, session timing, or missing reflections.

The Weekly Read unlocks after the New York close on Friday, once the week is actually finished.

How many AI Reads do I get?
  • Free account: 4 credits
  • Tally Pro ($12.80/month): 30 credits a month
  • Linked to a mentor: 14 credits per month, included

Re-opening a Read you've already generated is always free — you're only charged for genuinely new analysis.

Is the AI giving me trading advice?

No. The AI Read describes patterns in trades you have already taken. It never recommends an instrument, a direction, or a strategy, and it can't predict markets. Nothing it produces is financial advice.

It also can't invent things. It only works from the trades and reflections you wrote — which is why a journal with empty reflections produces a Read that mostly tells you to start writing.

Mentors

How does the Mentor Hub work?

A mentor gets a personal invite link and a roster of up to 10 students. Anyone joining through that link lands on the roster automatically, and the mentor can read their trades, reflections and charts, and leave coaching notes on individual trades.

Mentor access is strictly read-only. A mentor can never edit or delete anything in your journal.

What do I get for joining a mentor?

While you're linked to a mentor, your account gets 30 credits a month — spendable on AI Reads and formatted exports — at no cost to you.

Can I stop sharing my journal with a mentor?

Always. Tap Stop sharing and confirm. Your mentor is asked to confirm the removal; if they don't respond within 48 hours, sharing ends automatically. If you'd rather not wait, Leave now ends it immediately.

When the link ends, your account returns to the free tier. Your journal is untouched — it's yours, and it stays.

Plans, exports and data

What does Tally cost after the beta?
  • Free: journaling, 4 credits, unlimited CSV imports, one formatted export
  • Pro — $12.80/month: 14 credits a month, unlimited CSV imports, unlimited PDF and Excel exports
  • Mentor — $128.80/month: everything in Pro, plus a roster of up to 10 students, each with their own 30 credits
Can I get my data out?

Yes, and this one matters to us: JSON export is free and unlimited on every account, forever. It's your data — you can take the complete file whenever you like, without paying us anything.

The formatted exports are the ones that are metered. During the beta a free account gets one PDF and one Excel; after the beta, one export in total. Paid and mentor-linked accounts export without limit.

What happens to my journal if I stop paying?

Your journal goes read-only. It is never deleted, locked away, or held hostage — you can still open it, read every trade, and export your data. Start paying again and full editing returns instantly.

What happens when I delete my account?

Everything tied to you goes, immediately and permanently: trades, reflections, screenshots, saved AI Reads, mentor links, coaching notes, plan and settings. The one exception is a fully anonymized copy of the AI analyses — your identity is stripped so it can never be linked back to you — which we keep only to improve the system. Nothing that identifies you remains.

If you want a copy first, export your JSON before deleting.

Who can see my journal?

You, and any mentor you've explicitly chosen to share with — nobody else. We don't sell your data or show ads against it. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what we store and why.
